My passion for food came from my father. My passion for health came from my mother. The 2 meshed together are what feed my mind, body and soul. This journey has been an interesting one to say the least.
My love of food started at a young age. My father is Greek and has always had a love of food and cooking. No, we didn't own a restaurant like most typical Greek families but we love to cook and we love good food. From as far back as I can remember, I was eating things most kids (and adults today) find grotesque in the food department. Eating lamb, squid, lobster, shellfish, swordfish ..... it was always an adventure and I loved every bit of it. My dad and I still love to cook together and still share recipes and ideas for making new and exciting dishes.
My mom unfortunately is a different story. After a difficult time dealing with menopause at age 54, she was prescribed many rounds of Hormone Replacement Therapy to resolve her "symptoms". Although I don't really think she ever thought it was the "right" thing for her body, she followed the doctors orders. A short time later she was diagnosed with uterine cancer which traveled quickly through her lymph system and she was gone before we knew what was happening. The funny thing is that my mom was an extremely healthy, petite and vivacious woman. She owned a Wellness salon and practiced yoga, reiki and massage. It still baffles me how things went so wrong with her diagnosis of "female" issues but this is what has led me down the road to find my passion for natural health care and healthy "real" food.
I am currently studying to get certified in Holistic Nutrition from the Global College of Natural Medicine. I am writing this blog to share my story, my passion, my journey and my life. (and of course all my delicious recipes)
